Madame Alexander Dorothy Dolls

1991 Storyland Dorothy

I call this one the Dorothy-Boop doll. She was apparently first released by Madame Alexander in 1991, and originally sold as one of the Storyland Doll series. Since then, they have manufactured a "Legends Wizard of Oz" collection. The collection includes Dorothy, the "Tin Woodman", "Cowardly Lion" and "Scarecrow". I believe these dolls are no longer in production, though they can sometimes be found at some dealers. I bought this one in the summer of 1996. I managed to talk a local dealer into selling Dorothy alone, and I paid $60.00 for her.

The doll stands 8 inches tall. Her face is the classic Madame Alexander face that they use for many of their 8-inch collectors dolls (I think she's called Wendy). She has sleepy eyes and is made entirely of vinyl. She has a lace petticoat, which makes the dress quite full. Her shoes are made of red nylon, giving them a shiny look. She's really cute! She carries a basket, and comes with a plastic Toto on a leash. The tag reads "Madame Alexander/Legends/The Wizard of Oz".

Storyland Friends Dorothy

I bought this doll in the summer of 1996. I don't know if she's still in production. I paid $90 for mine, but I have since seen most of them selling for about $120.

I believe this doll was introduced in 1995 or 1996. She is 14 inches tall, and is really very lovely, though she doesn't look anything like Judy.

Her costume is very elaborate, and she has two petticoats, so the dress is very full. She comes with a basket and a cloth Toto. The index finger on her right hand is pointing in Alexander style - just one of the little touches that makes this doll very special.
