Screen Life Star Doll

1941 "Screen Life" Magazine

Judy Garland Star Doll

In February 1941, the short-lived "Screen Life" Magazine began a series of star dolls, designed by caricaturist Jacques Kapralik, to be included in each issue. The first was the Judy Garland Star Doll. This is what they had to say:

"Introducing Screen Life's sensational, new, exclusive series...your favorite stars in paper doll form, complete with cut-out costumes from their outstanding films. Judy Garland was chosen for the honor of introducing the series because she has made herself the Valentine of the whole nation with her brilliant acting, singing and dancing in Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer films. On this page you see her in her little bathing suit, waiting to be dressed in costumes from Everybody Sing, The Wizard of Oz, Babes in Arms, Strike Up the Band and Little Nellie Kelly.

Cut her out, Dress her up. Put her on a luncheon table for a party favor. Give her to little sister. You'll find a dozen ways to amuse yourself with this fascinating feature which comes to you each month, free, with your big issue of Screen Life Magazine. Remember, another doll next month."
