This Dorothy doll is a limited edition issued by Franklin Mint in 1986. She is beautifully crafted. She has a cloth body, porcelain arms, legs and head. Her eyes are brown, and look very real.
The costume is very pretty - it is a bright blue and white checked material with checks proportionately much larger than those of Judy's dress.
She wears knee-length white bloomers and a white petticoat, both with lace trim. The stockings are sculptured and painted. They are a light blue and look very much like Judy's in the movie. The shoes are also sculptured and painted on, and are dipped in red glitter to provide a sparkling effect. This is one doll that won't lose her shoes!
Her hair is dark brown with red highlights, and is very nicely styled, although white ribbons were used in her hair instead of blue and the French curl was omitted.
She carries a stuffed Toto in a straw basket - by far the cutest Toto I have ever seen with a Dorothy doll. She bears a resemblence to Judy, and is quite pretty.
I bought this doll from a private collector in 1995 for $275.00. That's probably more than I should have paid, but you don't see these dolls for sale every day!
2005 update - Recently I have been seeing these dolls on eBay in the $30.00 - $60.00 range.
I shot these pictures myself, back in '98 with my $800.00 kilo-pixel (640x480) digital camera and about 4,000,000 watts of lighting. Not bad, eh? :)
