Rainbow
Dramatized biography, starring Andrea McArdle
Produced by Jackie Cooper/Ten Four Productions for NBC TV, 1978
Based on Christopher Finch's book "Rainbow"
Videotape commercially released by Alliance in 1987.
Occasionally aired on AMC.
Entertaining dramatization of Judy's life from 1934 to autumn 1938 - the beginning of her tenure with MGM through the filming of The Wizard of Oz. Though generally disliked by many Judy fans - due to Andrea's rather sulky portrayal of Judy - I
personally like the film. I like Andrea McArdle, and the film score is fun. The film is notable for some good renditions of some of young Judy's standards, including the Hoagy Carmichael song "Judy" sung by Andrea McArdle, Donna Pescow and Erin Donovan as the Gumm Sisters (said to be the song from which Judy took her name). Andrea's rendition of "Dinah" is also quite good.
Note: More information on this film is available on .
